Students collaborate in a CEETE Active Learning Classroom in Wendt Commons. Round tables with shared screens and plentiful whiteboards support teamwork and interactive problem-solving.
Technology & Design Features: CEETE’s ALCs in Wendt Commons are intentionally designed to be flexible, tech-rich, and pedagogy-forward. Each room is specially designed to inform students that the focus of their work is in groups.
Faculty Partnerships and Support: Implementing active learning is a journey, and CEETE is here to partner with instructors every step of the way. What truly sets our ALC program apart is the wrap-around support for faculty.
Workshops and Training: CEETE regularly offers workshops, bootcamps, and one-on-one consultations to help instructors redesign their courses for active learning. In these sessions, you might learn how to integrate a flipped classroom model or how to use in-class polling for real-time feedback. Faculty also form communities of practice – sharing tips and success stories – so you’re never innovating alone.
Technical Training: Before teaching in an ALC, instructors receive personalized training on the room’s technology – from how to send a student’s laptop screen to the group monitor, to recording a class session. CEETE’s instructional technologists and student consultants (a diverse team of tech-savvy students) are available to ensure every instructor feels confident using the equipment.
On-Demand Support: Perhaps most reassuring, dedicated support is just a call or click away during class times. CEETE’s support staff are on standby (and often on-site on the Wendt 4th floor) Monday–Friday to assist with any issues – whether it’s troubleshooting a projector or adapting Canvas tools for active learning. In short, when you teach in a CEETE active learning space, you’re joining a supportive community. We don’t just hand you a high-tech room – we actively collaborate with you to make your class a success, from pedagogy planning to real-time technical backup.
