Luis Loya is a dedicated Teaching and Learning Technology Specialist at the Collaboratory for Engineering Education and Teaching Excellence. With a strong passion for digital accessibility, he brings his expertise in using evidence-based practices to boost learning outcomes. As a Canvas wizard, he’s excited to help instructors harness the magic of Canvas.

Luis has previously worked at the Instructional Design Collaborative, where he worked with instructors to transform 16-week in-person courses into engaging 8-week online formats. He also played a key role in designing the Returning TA training for the College of Letters and Science and served as a Canvas consultant for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He has TA’d for a plethora of courses including news writing, mass communication law, and communication theory. This last summer, he taught digital media fluency and helped students contribute to the course blog for incoming freshman.

In his free time, Luis enjoys live music, playing the cello, and attending drag shows. He holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from New Mexico State University and is wrapping up his dissertation in Mass Communication at SJMC. His research includes published work on journalism education, social protest, queer communities on TikTok, and musicians on Twitter. He is a proud recipient of a 2021 Innovation in Teaching Award from College of Letters & Science.
